Joaquim Freire was born in Recife, Brazil, but also
spent part of his childhood in Chile, where he took up playing the
guitar, and in the United States. At the age of thirteen, he moved
with his family to Switzerland and pursued his studies at the Conservatoires
of Geneva and Lausanne. Apart from his concert career, he teaches
the guitar at the Conservatoire de Fribourg. As a soloist, he has
already attracted international attention over the past few years.
Especially his interpretations of the works of Latin American contemporary
composers have received high critical acclaim by audience and critics
alike.
GRAMOPHONE
«... Freire's moodily kaleidoscopic performance of this
work (Ginastera) wins the gold... superbly recorded... warmly
recommended...»
STEREO REVIEW
«Exquisite performances of a cornerstone of modern guitar
music... Joaquim Freire is an immensely talented Brazilian guitarist
who makes the difficult sound easy and then moves on to make music.»
